Nevermind that bit about Nintendo not supporting the console well enough. Holy crap there's a ton of games for this thing. I find it hard to believe that even Nintendo would be obnoxious enough to suppose that gamers would buy a downloadable game storage cart and the system just to play a game that wouldn't be available in its entirety after a two hour period, ever again. That said, it's a really pretty good theory. The whole idea of the BS-X was that you'd be able to download games to play at your leisure (apparently the BS-X Zelda was an exception?) - games that wouldn't require you go to the store and.well, the whole idea was a bit strange, but apparently a few people bought into it. The system was only up during a set time period, so if you missed the download you couldn't ever make it up - and it's hard to believe they'd broadcast some music you'd only be able to hear once. Yet as the BS-X didn't save this music to cart, it's safe to assume it would have to be played just as it appeared off the signal, which would lead to music not corresponding to elements in-game, and would require the BS-X to hold a great deal of extra ROM in determining when to play and fade out the track. I think the best argument against there being audio tracks sent, though, is that you couldn't start downloading a game at any old time you needed to turn it on before the download started (probably when a synchronization signal was broadcast), and supposing there was any free space after the download, you COULD put music in there. Possibly these odd periods of silence are due to the rushed nature of the programs. I don't think they had the technology to encode the broadcast with both data and sound, as the BS-X would have to differentiate between the two somehow. It's a very good remake of the original Zelda, even using a little bit of Mode 7! It's a shame it was timed.Īs for a synchronized audio track.the system was on, broadcasting data on one channel. The other is a ghost jumping game, where the more ghosts you jump, the more points you receive.Actually, in BS-X Zelda you can choose the boy or girl, so you've got mascots :P One is a ramp game, where the farther you go, the higher score you receive. In between the 4 courses, there are bonus rounds that add onto your high score. In the competition race, the place you finish in after 5 laps gives you a certain score. In the solo races, the more laps you complete, the higher your score becomes. You race 4 courses, first solo, then against 7 other racers (Koopa Troopas, who you can't pick, make up the other racers). This game is all about getting the high score in your hour. That's because the game was intended to be played in an hour(ish) period. If you've ever played Excitebike on NES, you know what you're in for, although this game has a twist.īecause this was a Satellaview game, there is a clock in the top corner that starts at 19:03 and ends at 19:56. All of the characters have voice samples when they race which are accurate and give the game that 'Mario' feel. Sadly, Luigi was replaced in this version with Yoshi. You choose from 5 characters: Mario, Princess, Toad (called Kipino), and Wario, and Yoshi. As mentioned in the details, the loading times have been removed, making the game easy and fu to play. This version of the game is based on Mario Stadium 4.
